FTB completed on a house today, feeling excited yet overwhelmed at the amount to do and could use some success stories!

So after a long and arduous conveyancing process, I finally completed on my first ever house a today! It’s a small terrace and quite old and I had a full survey done on it so I know it’s structurally sound- some roof repairs are needed but that’s been budgeted for.

What I expected a bit but still found quite overwhelming was how much needs doing! Let’s just say the previous owners were not the cleanest people and the house is quite dirty; walls are scuffed and grimy, kitchen is a state, paint is chipped and there’s a pervasive pet smell. Plus the house is in quite a new area to me- I have friends there but it’s still a big change.

I’m planning on getting new carpets and flooring, but I’m struggling a bit to visualise the end product I want and I was just hoping to hear from other buyers, first time or not, who may have had similar feelings when they first moved in and how you’ve gone about making it feel like home!
