is Trump trying to copy Bukele?

I find it frustrating how often people compare Trump to Hitler, when a more accurate and timely comparison might be Nayib Bukele.

When Bukele became President of El Salvador, he swiftly cracked down on crime, imprisoning tens of thousands. Was it effective? Yes, crime rates dropped significantly. But it's also true that many innocent people were caught up in the mass arrests.

Trump seems to be following a similar playbook. In my view, he’s exaggerating the threat of crime in American cities to justify an authoritarian-style crackdown.

Recently, Bukele’s government passed a constitutional amendment allowing indefinite re-election, a move we've seen before from leaders like Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. The Trump admin supported this move: https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/06/world/el-salvador-eliminating-presidential-term-limits-intl-latam

Now Trump is openly teasing a 2028 run.

What do conservatives think about this direction?
Does it concern you at all, or do the ends justify the means?
