Occupational therapy vs ABA
I am struggling to figure out what would be best for my son. He’s 4 and has autism level 1. Originally I had thought ABA may be best because of his problematic behaviors he sometimes has. We were on a wait list for months and they can finally get us in. I had not realized how many hours ABA may take up per week. My child has never been in preschool or daycare and I’m concerned this is going to overwhelm him. Also we have a smaller home and some of the ABA would be done at home especially the 30 day assessment is at our house. It specifically says pets should be put away to avoid distractions and with how small our house is I can’t see that being feasible. Also says about having a designated room or space with a table and chairs to allow for just the therapy work. We have no room for a table and chairs and we definitely don’t have a spare room in general. I try my best to keep everything as organized and clean as I can but it’s a small house and there is only so much I can do here. Would occupational therapy be just as beneficial possibly? Does OT help with behavior issues as well? He is very high functioning but also has ADHD and his focus is very distracted at times. Could OT maybe be a better option? I want to do what’s best for him but I just have no idea what the best way forward is. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
