I 30F lied to my 38m bf

This is more just a vent than some advice, but I had lost my job about a month ago and I’ve been struggling. He’s noticed. The other day we had a very long conversation about what I do for my family and how sometimes a certain member of my family scares me. He asked me if this family member has ever hit me, I told him no when the answer was actually yes, one time, two months ago. I feel bad for lying but I don’t know why I feel bad. Should I have told the truth?
