The Ned Ryerson Dilemma
Yay, and so it past that one fan came up with a pretty neat theory https://www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/5rrh2z/groundhog_day_ned_ryerson_is_the_devil_and/ and let me honor it for its creativity and attention to detail. Indeed, Ned Ryerson is an enigma of a man when the chapters of this story start to replicate each other, repeating over and over again, like some Dantean nightmare of a scenario, but to insinuate some attempt at barter within his riddle-like annoyance is far too profound for what I might infer about the situation. Let's appreciate Ned Ryerson (his name be praised) for that one thing we can all agree on: He's purposely portrayed as the most annoying guy in the world. He is the microcosm of annoyance within life; the archetype of aggravation, encapsulated within a mere few minutes of acquaintance in his fortuitous run-in with the one true prophet, Phil Connors. He represents everyone from our past who we look back on with a far more profound wisdom of appreciation that we never have to see him again. He's an annoying fuck, his name be praised, which is surely who the devil would play; non-threatening, curious in his misgivings and misdirection, and all the more malignant how his scene slips from one into the next, as if none of it truly matters.
Boo this man! Ned Ryerson is the archetype of annoyance, built by design by our most profound creators, to confuse us and enamor us with his mystery. What is this being? Some reflection of a saint mirrored in monotony and cinema? Some unforeseen prophet along the timeline of one Phil Connors, to deliver a message he can only profess through riddles and syllaballic action? I ask you now, as you watch this movie a hundred times or more, to study his actions carefully, as you should everyone trapped within the timeline of the one true prophet by the name of Phil. Watch what he does, what he says, and compare it to our Lord and Savior, for the Groundhog sees all. The Groundhog knows all... and his wisdom is in all of us, to be deciphered by all, until our time passes into the void to which our creators have bestowed on these enigmas of worlds, cinema, and celestial structures.
Amen!
