Convincing y'all to read my friend's friend (and my new favourite) book with an excerpt. [Don't ban me, your rules said nothing about friend's book promotion]

 As the title says, here's an excerpt from her book. She sent me this and I immediately went on KU to read it.

Prairie was about to leave when she felt someone step into her space. Too close. A hand pressed against the wooden board just beside her head, blocking her way.
She turned her gaze up straight into the sharp, grey eyes of Rhyden Thalos. “Found a dress yet, Valerian?”
His voice was a smooth drawl, but his smirk carried an edge of challenge.
Prairie narrowed her eyes.
“Why? You offering to sew one for me?”
Rhyden chuckled. “Don’t test me, Archeress. If you need a dress, I would be more than happy to learn to sew for you. But, I’m here for something else.” His fingers grazed the paper tacked onto the board—the ball announcement—before he flicked it lightly. “You need a partner.”
