Where did I go wrong?
Salaam all,
I was getting to know a sister for marriage. I had rather clearly laid out what I was looking for. The sister had asked me if there was something else also. To which I said I am looking for a working wife.
Now, I am a young Somali guy in his mid 20s based in Europe. I graduated from university not that long ago and have been working FT since then. Alhamdulillaah I am getting paid decently considering it is my first job out of university. I am also in a field where I could potentially be making much more in the future.
However, I am not making crazy money to the point where I could afford to have a stay at home wife. Perhaps one day this could change inshaAllah but as of today that is not feasible. Additionally, where we live most of the young educated Somali couples are working together. There is often no other way that they could afford marriage especially amidst the current cost of living crisis.
Just by me saying that I am looking for a working wife the sister thought that I had money issues. I was speechless about this because I know myself and this is simply not true. She did not even know what I do for a living or how much I get paid. What she did not know also is I have zero debt and I save as well as invest each month. I don’t have huge expenses either. I am doing well alhamdulillaah compared to many people financially where we live.
I probably could have explained myself better but I ended things then and there. Just wondering how I could have handled the situation better?
