Salary Expectations

Seeking Advice

I (29F) met a guy (29M) through a matrimonial app about two months ago. We've been talking regularly and recently met in person. From my end, the connection felt good — the vibe was comfortable, and I sensed mutual interest. Based on his responses and behaviour, it seemed like he felt the same.

Right from the beginning, I was clear about my non-negotiables and communicated them openly. I also asked him multiple times if he had any specific deal-breakers. He only mentioned that he wanted a partner who works, which I do. I'm currently earning 8 LPA and am actively job hunting, expecting to move into a role offering around 10–12 LPA. I've been transparent about this from the start.

During our meeting, we discussed finances in more detail. He earns around 15 LPA, which is higher than my current income, but not dramatically so. Despite this, I’ve noticed in recent interactions that he seems quite fixated on the fact that I earn less. This is starting to feel like a red flag, especially since he never brought it up as a concern earlier — and had the opportunity to, multiple times.

What adds to my confusion is that while I may currently earn less, I come from a financially secure family, have no liabilities, and have managed to save more than he has. Our lifestyles and backgrounds are also quite different.

Given all this, I’m starting to question whether it’s worth continuing to pursue this match. If income was such a critical factor for him, shouldn’t it have been made clear from the start?
