Shirtless snaps

My boyfriend (32 M; Korean) said I (22 F; Korean Canadian) should post this on Reddit get others’ opinions. My boyfriend saw one of my snaps I received (note: he usually doesn’t look at my phone cuz he doesn’t want to invade my privacy) and he saw my friend shirtless in bed with no text. We had a disagreement with the normality/casuality of these types of snaps. My boyfriend was wondering if these types of snaps are normal in the eyes of North American. What does everyone think?
