Worth having a points card and a travel card
Hi all,
So I've set myself up to be pretty solid with my money, but I've been lacking on having a solid credit card that earns rewards.
Recently my every day card was hacked (probably at the pump or a restaurant) and I figured since everything is upended anyway I might as well get better
My question is: is it worth it to have both a points card and a cash back card. The AMEX Blue Cash Preferred offers pretty solid rewards on groceries, gas, and streaming (basically household expenses). But it doesn't offer much outside of those. With the cost of groceries now the 6% back will definitely cover the 95$ fee and then some.
However I do have to travel for work, and my partner and I take a yearly trip and do some weekend outings. This might make a card that accumulates points from travel, and can be used while traveling, enticing.
I was curious if anyone else does a similar split system, or if just leaning into one over the other has yielded better results.
I was considering a third "catch all card" that I would use for purchases that may not get much bang for the buck on the more specific cards. Something like a fee free 2% cash back or a flat points card if that exists.
Thanks for the advice!
