Upgrading Ram for Asus a15 TUF FX506IU = Black screen freeze.

Hey everyone,

I recently tried upgrading the RAM on my Asus TUF A15 FA506IU. My goal was to go from 16 GB to 32 GB. I installed two XLR8 Gaming (powered by PNY) 16 GB DDR4-3200 dual-rank sticks (CL20), which are the same specs as what people normally recommend for laptops of this class.

Unfortunately, the laptop (win10) started freezing almost immediately after booting. I tested each stick individually in each slot and everything worked fine, so it seems the laptop does not like having two dual-rank 16 GB sticks installed together. Single sticks are fine, dual sticks crash.

After switching to single-rank RAM, everything has been stable.

I’m curious if anyone else here has experienced the same issue with the TUF A15 series or similar laptops? It seems like a limitation of the memory controller or BIOS, but I haven’t found much documentation on it. Also BIOS has been updated to latest version.
