Help with diagnosing a suspected restriction
I’ve been struggling to figure out this callback from my install team and I need some advice from y’all. I got dispatched to a no cooling on a 6 month old system and i see that the condenser short cycles after about 20 seconds. I attach my gauges and see that when the system kicks on, the suction pressure drops quickly until it trips the low pressure cutoff. The head pressure would rise to about 230-250, which seemed normal for a 75ish degree day. I look around and see that there’s no filter drier 🤦♂️.
So I figure the txv is probably clogged, and I returned later to fix it. However, adding a drier and replacing the txv, the system was still doing the same thing.
The only other abnormal thing I noticed was that the compressor was making unusual sounds and did not sound happy. I spoke to a coworker and we decided to replace the compressor and see how it does. Does this sound like a good course of action?
