marriage advice

I (23F) have been interested in being with this guy for a long time now. we have been family friends for years and have made it clear that we want to be married to each other. unfortunately he wants someone who wears the hijab which i do not wear and says that i either have to wear it or we cannot be together. i do not know what to do as i love him and i do want to wear it one day but i do not feel i am ready :( if i dont wear it he will leave and marry someone else.
