I gave everything to someone who used me, lied to me, and left me broken I just need to get this off my chest.
We were together for three years. The first two felt perfect. Then the last one turned into a nightmare of lies, gaslighting, and feeling completely alone.
He cheated on me when he got into the NYPD. I was ready to leave him because I got orders to work in another state around the same time, but he begged to come with me. I told him straight up either stay and we’re done, or come with me and prove you can change. He only left his job because I gave him that ultimatum.
I paid the rent and utilities while he was supposed to handle his own credit cards until he went active duty. He never did. Now he told me I “said I’d take care of him” until then which is a complete lie. He just didn’t want to take responsibility for anything.
He lied about paying off debt, took out a $7,000 loan behind my back, and I even gave him $2,000 from my savings because he claims that he used that for our first apartment’s security deposit so I wanted no owed money ties. He used the 2K to pay his cousin after a car accident which I knew. He kept texting other women and his ex, acted lazy and messy, and made me feel guilty for being tired of carrying everything.
When I told him to get himself together or leave because I felt used, he actually left even though I didn’t have my car and had our dog. He had the only car between us in that state. I called him because I couldn’t believe he’d really go. He came back later, but by then I knew I was done.
Before leaving, I had to sell my furniture because he refused to pay for a U-Haul, saying “it’s not my stuff.” I even sold his PS5 which I bought him to ship my essentials home. Our dog loves him more, and she’s too big to fly, so I left her with him. I left quietly because I didn’t want to risk being stranded again.
After I left, he texted me the same gaslighting messages as always pretending, twisting things, acting like he was hurt. I decided to have him take out the RV I got for us to use for when we came back to NY.
I got the RV originally for us to stay in when we came back before his active duty orders, but when he started acting cold again, leaving me in there, only helping with the RV needs, I realized I couldn’t keep doing this. I let him leave and get his stuff. Now I’m staying with family, trying to rebuild from this. I know leaving was the right thing, but it still hurts. While he’s buying flowers and steak in New Jersey, like he hadn’t just wrecked everything. Apparently he’s suppose to be out with friends but I don’t know. I only see the purchase notifications and I’m not speaking to him.
I gave him loyalty, money, love, and chance after chance. He gave me lies, guilt, and loneliness. I just needed to let it out. I’m heartbroken and trying to remind myself that walking away means choosing peace. It just sucks starting over like this when I wanted to be with him forever while he wanted to be with me for who knows why.
