Tool for pinning games/apps to specific cores.

Discussion

Hey r/pcmasterrace!

Stop setting CPU affinity manually - I built a tool to automate it

Built affinity-rs because I got tired of opening Task Manager and clicking CPU checkboxes every time I launched a game.

One-time setup, infinite reuse:

-> affinity-rs mygame (in terminal)

# Configure once, launches instantly forever

# Creates desktop shortcuts too

Why you might need this:

Intel 12th gen+ (Hybrid CPUs):

  • Pin games to P-cores only (avoid E-cores)
  • Example: 0-15 for P-cores on 13900K/14900K

AMD Ryzen (Dual-CCD):

  • Pin to single CCD to avoid cross-CCD latency
  • Example: 0-7 for CCD0 on 7950X/9950X

AMD X3D chips:

  • Pin to the CCD with 3D V-Cache

Everyone:

  • Old games that stutter on modern CPUs
  • Separate gaming and streaming on different cores
  • Video encoding workloads

Better than alternatives:

  • Task Manager: Manual checkboxes every launch
  • PowerShell: Calculating hex masks like 0x155
  • affinity-rs: Simple syntax (0,2,4,6), saved profiles, one command

Built in Rust, cross-platform (Windows/Linux), MIT licensed.

Anyone else been manually setting affinity? This should save you some headaches!
