Transferring registration WA to VIC
Hello! I've recently relocated from WA to VIC for work and am scheduled to transfer my vehicle registration tomorrow. I spoke with VicRoads and was advised that I'm exempt from needing a RWC, as the vehicle is already registered in my name.
However, I’m a bit confused about the motor vehicle duty. According to the information provided, it looks like I may need to pay it, even though I bought the car new in 2021 and it's remained in my name since.
Has anyone transferred their rego from WA to VIC recently and can confirm whether the duty applies in this case? If so, how is the vehicle’s value calculated, and is the payment required at the time of transfer? I wasn’t expecting an additional $800+ on top of the other fees, so I’d appreciate any clarification.
Thanks in advance!
