Questions regarding dialing in and numbers

Hi friends,

Problem 1: My shots are not great. Problem 2: I'm a software engineer so everything is a problem.

Naturally I've decided to make something to track my shots and use math/science to help me decide what to tweak (no, no magical machine learning here).

I'm relatively new to this and I've become helplessly attached to this habit.

I am currently using the following datapoints to help decide how I should adjust:

• grind size (based on max grind size for my machine)
• dose (grams)
• total time
• yield

I think total time should in fact be two separate values: extraction time, and pre-infusion time.

Am I missing anything obvious that the average person would need to help them dial in? I'm not trying to appeal to everyone, just most. I see these questions come up a lot—why does my shot x/y/z—so I figured I'd help them (I'm assuming my fellow travelers) get things straightened out.
