The other party filed a lawsuit
Hi. I was involved in an accident in January 2025. The accident report indicated that I was at fault (I ran a red light). My insurance did not provide full coverage. It only covered the other party, and my policy limit was 25,000/50,000. There were three people in the other vehicle: one driver and two passengers in the back seat. No ambulance came to the scene, and they left in another vehicle. In August, my insurance company told me that they had reached an agreement with the other party and that waivers had been signed. My policy limit was paid in full. However, yesterday I received a bunch of paperwork from the court stating that one of the people in the other vehicle had filed a lawsuit against me, seeking damages of around $50,000. After the accident, I lost my car and my job. At the same time, I still have pain in my neck and back, which prevents me from working much. My current monthly income is very low and barely covers my bills. I cannot afford this amount, and I don't even own any property. What can I do? I spoke with a few accident lawyers, but they won't take the case because I was at fault.
