Obtained RBT Cert 6 months ago but feeling intimated/nervous but ready to start working. Looking for guidance on what to look for when interviewing and overcoming nerves when
Hello. First time poster. Long time reader.
First a little about my backstory: I currently work for an online publication with a focus on the disability community. I learned about ABA/RBT through my current job. I wanted to switch career fields while still being able to be a present mom, as I have been a stay at home mom for 11 years while working remotely for the publication but with both of my kids now in school, I would like to work in person.
Two years ago I began researching degrees and fields that resonated with what I am passionate about. ABA really seemed to align with all of those things. The RBT position seemed like a great place to start to see if I wanted to pursue this field further.
Fast forward to this past March, I paid for and completed the certification and passed the RBT exam on my first attempt and was excited to start applying to places. Six months have passed and now I am second guessing myself after going down Reddit rabbit holes (thought reading threads would help but learned quickly that was a mistake) which left me feeling intimidated and second guessing this field.
I am now seeking guidance on what I should look for when interviewing/applying with clinics. I am also nervous that although I have completed the training, I will not receive any guidance once I accept a position.
What is the normal protocol for RBTs when they accept a position? Are they offered training or shadowing before running BIPs on their own?
I need all the tips, tricks, and insight outside of the negative. I love children, and I love the disability community and want to be in this field to help families and children. But the threads on nightmare clinics and being throw into sessions alone terrifies me as I want to be a competent RBT.
Thank you in advanced if you read all of this and take the time to offer insight!
