🧠 Index-MCP Core Features

β€’ Fast ingestion – Parallel filesystem walker with .gitignore support, hashing, chunking, and pluggable embeddings (FastEmbed ONNX by default; Candle sentence-transformers optional). Supports auto-eviction by database size. Each chunk now stores summaries, symbols, identifiers, languages, and graph metadata. When embeddings are enabled, an on-disk HNSW index is built for lightning-fast ANN (approximate nearest neighbor) search.

β€’ Hybrid lookups – semantic_search, code_lookup, and context_bundle blend lexical sieves with embedding-backed similarity. Results include match source (embedding vs lexical), confidence, and symbol metadata β€” plus automatic fallback to brute-force scoring if ANN isn’t available.

β€’ Cross-file awareness – context_bundle automatically retrieves graph-linked snippets from neighboring files, tagging each with edge metadata so downstream prompts can reference related definitions without extra calls.

β€’ Git awareness – repository_timeline and repository_timeline_entry summarize recent commits and cached diffs so agents can reason about repo history and evolution.

β€’ Watch mode – Optional file watcher automatically re-ingests modified paths during long-running sessions.

β€’ Remote proxies – Mount extra MCP servers behind the same process by declaring JSON descriptors in INDEX_MCP_REMOTE_SERVERS.

β€’ Context budgeting & observability – Bundles respect configurable token budgets, track per-chunk usage, and emit diagnostics (model, backend, latency, similarity range) to help fine-tune downstream prompting.
