Unit committee participation

It’s probably common but my unit has been pushing all staff to be part of a unit committee or do audits. I do night shift and majority of the committee meetings have meetings more convenient for those who work dayshift, especially since you can’t call in or be virtual. I also struggle with the fact that the committees don’t seem to do much for the unit itself. For example, the work-life committee has only done a raffle baskets and flex/float passes. Unit council does meet a more convenient time but I struggle to see any differences it has implemented. I wanted to ask what committees you guys are on and if it’s mandatory. Lastly, any changes or new ideas the committee has done that you think has helped your unit.
