We ran 10 resumes through 3 different ATS systems. Only 2 passed. Here’s what we learned.
During one phase in our RnD, we found that ATS systems don’t 'hate you': they’re just 'allergic' (for lack of a better term) to bad formatting.
Here’s what tripped them up most: PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
- PDFs with weird layouts or icons in section titles
- Fancy fonts (the system literally can’t read them)
- Skills hidden inside paragraphs
- File names like “Resume_FINAL_FINAL(1).pdf”
If you’ve ever applied to 50+ jobs and heard nothing back:
The system probably never even saw you. It’s not rejection, it’s just bad formatting.
The correct format is probably the one your dad used when he used to apply for jobs haha!
You need to have proper headers for your Summary, experience, skills and education, etc., laid out with information respectively. Hope this helps ... feel free to reach out in the comments below if you have any questions.<3
