FortiOS 7.4.9 and switch controller (conserve mode)

Hi,

We upgraded our 1000F from 7.2.11 to 7.4.9 last weekend and I got a really weird issue that caused entering conserve mode. Here is what I did.

Names of fortiswitches are now hardcoded to 16 letters instead of 35[?] in 7.2. To maintain my documentation I started renaming all of them (or I should say giving them new name because they were blank after upgrade). After reconfiguration FortiSwitch Topology (the interactive one) went unresponsive. All ports on affected switches in GUI were offline even though they were up on switches itself. I ran command diagnose switch-controller restart-daemon acd The daemon restarted and it went responsive again so I renamed couple of more and did the same thing. After second restart of daemon RAM peaked to almost 100% entering conserve mode and all traffic went down for like 1 minute.

After all of that RAM went down to like 50% (which is 10-12% more that usual in my environment) and GUI is dead. No httpsd restart are helping with this one.

I have scheduled emergency restart of HA cluster tomorrow because nothing is solving this issue.

To be honest I'm starting to feel very frustarted that firmware which is mature like 3 releases still could do bad things like that.

I hope that my situation with help someone considering the upgrade with medium size fortilink topology.

Regards.
