MFA applications: Personal Statement
Hello everybody and thanks in advance for reading my post. I’m applying to MFA visual/studio arts grad programs. A lot of the schools I’m applying to require a personal statement/statement of purpose, which sound the similar from the little description given in the application portal. I’m having a hard time knowing how to structure my statement. I have a clear idea about what I want to include in my statement (why I want to go to grad school, what my goals are, how this school will help me get there, artists I’ve been looking at, how art fits into my life, etc.), I’m just getting in my head about how to structure everything because I know the art world sometimes has some hidden templates with how you’re supposed to write about you and your work. Maybe this isn’t one of those cases and I should feel free to write what I want however I want. Also didn’t know if anyone who has gotten into/graduated from MFA visual art programs have any advice about this section of the application process (i.e writing all the short essays). Thanks again!
