Shallow Storage Container Question

Hello!

I used to do a lot of tie dye back in high school and I’m wanting to get back into it. I watched a video on Facebook of a girl using shallow plastic containers with lids for multiple shirts. She spiraled them up and laid them into the container then applied the dye. She puts the lid on and leaves it out in the sun. That was all it showed. If I do this, do you have to flip the items over and apply more dye? Will the colors run together? I used to use racks and plastic bags. Just wondering if this is possible/if anyone does this bc it will save time, space, and money.
