I am possibly buying my first horse soon, I have a PPE scheduled for tomorrow. His name is Django, he is a 12 y/o QH/Friesian cross gelding. He’s a really sweet boy, lots of personality, and he’s kid/beginner safe.

As far as medical history: he had a reconstructive surgery on one of his eyelids due to a laceration, it’s healed and doesn’t bother him anymore. Also had a laceration on his leg hind hoof, but farrier doesn’t view it as a problem since it’s healed. Again, all things I am going to have a vet look at. No history of lameness. UTD on vaccines, teeth were floated last year so he’ll likely be due in the next few months.

He is priced at $10,500. They are selling him because owner wants to pursue rodeo and he’s a more “whoa than go” horse so they don’t think he’s a good rodeo prospect. I’m looking for a safe horse than I can do trail trials and sorting with and just casually ride around in the arena/around the ranch. I’m not interesting in serious competing. Where I am located, there are many small events throughout the year. The ranch I will be boarding at (I also currently lease a horse from my trainer at this ranch) also puts on a small show once a year.

Do you think he’s priced accordingly? Should I negotiate lower, if so how much?Owner is motivated to sell, if he doesn’t sell by 10/31 they are going to put him on consignment, so they ideally want to avoid those fees.

My trainer is helping me with all of this. She thinks he’s going to be perfect for me. She trial rode him as well and really likes him. I’m just nervous and excited and would like as much outside input as possible. He has YouTube videos up if anyone is curious about what he looks like!
