Crawl Space Insulation?
TLDR: Condensation in crawl space from HVAC ductwork causing yellow mold and warping of a few boards. Inspector said fiberglass needs to be removed. However, handyman said the ductwork needs to be wrapped in fiberglass insulation. Advice or recommendations on cost-effective, best solutions to prevent condensation from ductwork causing issues.
Had home inspector come look at crawl space. Looks like there is quite a bit of condensation coming from the HVAC ductwork causing mold (yellow, about 1/2") and warping of a few of the boards (not affecting flooring yet, thank God). Looks as though fiberglass insulation was used to wrap at least some of the ductwork previously, but it has come undone. Inspector said fiberglass insulation needs to be removed because it will only cause issues. Had a handyman come to take a look at it and he said he just needed to wrap the ductwork with fiberglass insulation to prevent condensation. However, a quick Google search says fiberglass isn't good for crawlspaces. That said, is it true you shouldn't use fiberglass insulation in the crawl space? If so, what is a better, cost-effective alternative? Foam board insulation? Foil faced fiberglass insulation? Spray foam insulation? TIA!
