I have a lot of friends who just don't work

I don't subscribe to the "no one wants to work anymore" bullshit. I truly believe we should all be working less and getting more. But I have some friends that just do not work and it drives me crazy.

Two of them live with a family member and play video games all day. One has a seasonal job that they work at for a few months out of the year and the other works gig economy.

Another friend reads all day but also might drink all day? I can't really tell. Scrolls a lot, sends me texts about politics but otherwise lives off dividends from day trading.

It drives me crazy because all three are smart guys who could really benefit society in a net positive way by just being in the workforce in basically any capacity, but sit on the sidelines all day. I don't really care about the social and political cost of it all, or whether not working is right or wrong, but rather that as a society we have able bodied and functional people who elect to not enter the social contract.

Dependent on your political bent this is either a result of having no economic future in America or its a result of a permissive society that has kept people lazy and disincentivized to participate. Idk what to make of it but I just felt like I had to share.
