Discussion

Please read before you say "but that's part of the Gentoo experience" or anything to that extent.

I think because Gentoo as an entity and perhaps as community has taken a firm and in my opinion more than justified stance on AI not just on for code submission but also it's adverse impact on the environment and it's ethical concerns, I think Gentoo has for better or worse also paved a secondary niche for itself in the "market"/ (potential) community, which I think should be leveraged.

Growing a community doesn't inherently mean that it is going to cause it's downfall and whilst it may "dilute" it, I personally don't think that would affect it's current community.

I think in the same way that Arch has grown it's community and really in Linux terms gained an unparalleled popularity (well aside from Ubuntu but that is different) it has not really affected it internally people who used Arch the way the way they did before the surge still use it the same way, whether devs, gamers or otherwise.

I think it really is a perfect time for Gentoo to have a installer (I know like dropping a bomb or something)

Not for it to be aimed at people who want that traditional experience, customizable installation, Building from source etc, but for people who look towards Gentoo for different reasons or if you just want to set up a Gentoo quickly when it's not so important that everything is configured exactly as you want. I can install Gentoo, but sometimes I just use arch cuz I can't be bothered to spend 15-20 minutes focusing on the installation of a potentially 30 minute installation (because we are building everything from source and it takes a while).

And I'm not saying that Gentoo should change of course not but lowering the barrier to entry does not lower the complexity of the while system, I'd like to assume that everyone here is smart enough here to understand that despite some unfortunate prejudice.
