Hi all,

I’m really just looking for some help in making a space my own, and decorating “properly”. I just moved into my first place that’s truly just mine, and I’m really overwhelmed in getting it set up. I really have no idea where to start.

I was told that if I don’t paint right away, I likely never would. So I painted my whole apartment. My bedrooms and bathroom are painted Oyster Bay (cool tone, algae/slate/blue) and my living room, dining room and kitchen are painted Pale Oak (neutral, warmer grey-undertoned oak).

Aside from that, I don’t have a ton of furniture to move in. I have a TV stand, some black pieces, a neutral grey couch, an IKEA chair and some posters (all pictured). But I have no grasp of colour theory, matching, or interior design knowledge. I just picked the paint colours because I liked them, and thought it would make the apartment look more inviting than blank white walls. And they seemed to compliment each other, imo.

Now that I have my paint chosen, do I start with the main furniture pieces, and then accent afterwards? I’m assuming that’s the smart thing to do? What about posters? Shelving? Plants? I am so overwhelmed, and just need a bit of guidance. Any and all help is welcome, and I appreciate any of you who take the time to respond.
