Hi Owls, I took the new C954 Information Technology Management Online Assessment a week ago and passed. I was approaching competence with my pre-assessment two days before my actual assessment. Below are some tips I’d like to share.

P.S. This applies to the new assessment. I heard the study materials and assessment have been changed since July 2025.

1. Pay close attention to Chapter 4 (Hardware and software), Chapter 7 (Cloud), Chapter 9 (ERP), Chapter 3 (Project Management), Chapter 10 (System Acquisition), Software Design and Development  Methodologies (video), Prototyping methods (article), Wireframes, Mockups, Prototypes: How they serve for Perfect Design (video), Chapter 13 (Information Security), Cyber Attacks (Video), ITIL video on LinkedIn Learning, Subtitles of the required chapters in the CIO book. There are a lot of test questions based on these materials. I recommend taking notes while reading along.
2. Reading materials and videos first, flashcards next, knowledge test and chapter assessment last. I found the quiz questions (including the ones in the textbook) very helpful. In fact, some real test questions are taken from them.
3. Review your notes often. Convert them into flashcards if you’d like. I did not. Repetition is key to memorization.
4. Download the flashcard slides. It’s a bit ironic that the slides provided in an IT class are not user-friendly. Rearranging the cards on my own interface makes them much easier to study. You need to go over them, because there are new terms that I did not find in any reading materials.
5. Do the pre-assessment after you feel familiar with all the materials to see where you are. The coaching report of the pre-assessment is great guidance in where you should review and focus on.
6. Find the old version practice test on Quizlet and take/study it. These questions are still very helpful in terms of key topics and concepts. In fact, I think I saw one or two in my actual assessment. Remember to use this as basically a second set of pre-assessment.
7. Talk to your instructor. Even though I did not make an appointment with my instructor, based on the email communication with mine, I found my instructor approachable and friendly. If you have any sections that are not at least approaching competence, I recommend talking to your instructor (or any in the group) to go over some key concepts.
8. C954 is my only OA class. Doing a practice proctoring the day before my actual assessment really helped me get used to the proctoring process. So definitely do a practice one if this is your first OA. My proctoring experience was great with no complaints. I cannot speak for everyone, but I’d say don’t sweat on the proctoring part. 2 hours is more than enough, so read the questions carefully. There are self-explanatory questions.

I hope these tips are helpful! Let me know in the comments if you have any question.
