why was dance moms so popular compared to other reality shows involving kids?

as a reality tv junkie lol i realized unlike other reality shows featuring kids (toddlers and tiaras, supernanny, child genius, etc.) dance moms is one of the few shows that stayed relevant. i believe there are many factors to consider:

1. fixed ensemble/consistent casting dance moms featured a certain group of people each episode/season which allowed the audience to get to know the dancers/moms and become close to them. whereas the other shows feature different people.
2. big social media presence all the cast members from dance moms have a huge social media presence especially on instagram and tiktok.
3. history/formed relationships before the show the cast members definitely knew each other and had a family-like dynamic before the show started and it showed in the early seasons. it also made the drama/fun moments more authentic and heartfelt. you could feel the chemistry between the OG moms and girls.
4. filming environment unlike other shows where the kids were filmed in their homes, dance moms was filmed at a studio making it more relatable and less invasive.
5. iconic scenes/fights the producers knew how to trigger things which created the most iconic scenes that are still entertaining.
