boyfriend monitoring/controlling what i eat
my (30f) boyfriend (48m) got mcdonald’s earlier and i said i wanted a medium frappe, a 10 piece nugget, and a mcdouble. he got a big mac and a large frappe. he told me im not getting “two meals” and ordered me the frappe and chicken nuggets. then when i said that hurt my feelings and it feels controlling he said i gave him attitude. this happened last week too.
for context, we’ve been together for a little over two months. im 5’5 and 116 pounds. he got me on ozempic because i wanted to lose more weight and have body image issues. i was around 124 when i met him. i also just got on new medication for depression that can make you gain weight and i told him i wanted him to help monitor my eating so i dont gain a bunch of weight.
he said its for my own good because i dont like my body and he used to be a personal trainer and said i only need to eat once a day.
i told him this situation makes me feel bad about myself and feels controlling and hurtful and self conscious. he said my feelings are invalid and that im being dramatic and that hes not dealing with my attitude and im “throwing a tantrum”. am i wrong for feeling this way? is it normal for your partner to do this?
if you have time to read, he feels the need to type out his whole side of the story :
this whole thing began when we first started dating by my gf not liking where she was at with her weight and having body image issues. i was a personal trainer and have helped a lot of people lose weight so i wanted to work on her feeling better by looking better. She’s never been a “gym” person and gave a little pushback on doing it that way so i told her we could hold off and instead start by managing caloric intake. she had family and friends on ozempic and was curious to try that in addition to what we were doing. She started the ozempic and has made great progress and i’ve told her she’s looking skinnier and losing weight on the scale. She’s since started a new med which can make you gain weight but is very effective with her anxiety/depression. we didn’t know how this could affect the progress she’s already made with the ozempic and so we would just “monitor” it and she’s asked me to help with that. With all of that being taken into consideration, this afternoon we went to mcdonald’s and wanted to order all of that food and i told her that adding another item was unnecessary in addition to the 10pc nuggets and frappe and that it’s already a ton of calories without the added burger and told her as her trainer it’s just unnecessary calories. it’s hard for me sometimes because i’m acting as her bf and personal trainer and sometimes talk as her trainer which is a little more “firm” on some dietary decisions and less forgiving than if i was strictly talking to her as a bf if that makes sense. my goal was not to make her feel bad about her body or weight but to explain why doing that could derail the progress she’s already made.
TL;DR : boyfriend and i disagree on whether or not him monitoring my order from mcdonalds twice in the past week is controlling or not and if my feelings are valid for being hurt
