Did Carmela save Tony and Meadow by repenting?

I'm currently rewatching The Soprano's while working on my secondary monitor and it just came to me. Fabian Petrulio is about to shoot Tony and Meadow at the Motel at the same time as Carm is confessing (S01E05). She says that God someday might punish them because of their lifestyle even.

Sudently the rat changes his mind and goes away. I never paid much atention to this scene until today, but the paralel is interesting, don't you think?

Anyway, 4 dollars a pound
