After a blunder on the candidate's part, do most interviewers continue the interview to wrap it up professionally or do they genuinely care that the candidate succeeds?
Asking because I've had an interview. The recruiter told me there would be one HackerRank challenge and a second round focused on questions related to system design concepts.
Well, it turned out there were two challenges to solve and not just one. I immediately took a morale hit. I fumbled a lot and got a lot brain fog. I almost had it done, but I ended up asking to proceed to the next one simply because it was taking too long. I had a glass of water and ended up completing the second one in reasonable time parameters.
The problem is that solving both challenges took way too long and we had a 15-20 minutes discussion around some concepts (async code, some database-related questions and some related to my experience). But not necessarily a set of questions related to system design concepts. For what it's worth, I think I did fine in the second half of the interview but I can't shake the feeling that they simply went on out of courtesy.
It's also quite annoying because the problem was not especially difficult. I could probably solve it in the quiet of my room in 15 minutes. I also found the requirements structure way too long and messy for a small coding exercise (never had a HackerRank experience before).
