Intrinsic Power Of Stones?

I am interested in giving a gift of a meaningful stone to a Sag friend who is into astrology. Seeing that she likes blues, I am leaning toward Sapphires. Only when I started looking into them did I realize that stones can have meaning for those beyond just one's birthstone. So for sapphires -- its association with wisdom, loyalty, trust, and divine favor just adds to how well the stone syncs with her personality, which reflects each of those.

So, what I want to ask here, from those more experienced in astrological beliefs, is do you think these stones possess some inherent power to amplify those traits they symbolize? As some believe with crystals? Or is their value moreso just in the significance we ascribe to them, like a diamond wedding ring, or a reminder to live up to those values -- and in this case, to recognize how they reflect her positive nature?

Just curious. My inclination, without knowing more, is that thy would just be symbols without inherent power or abilities. But interested to hear different feedback from those more learned in this area.
