Feeling distant in my 2 year relationship (M23 - F21)
I (21F) have been in a relationship with my boyfriend (23M) for about 2 years, including some short lived breaks. We used to, and frankly still have, great chemistry, but in the last month i felt a growing distance between us. I'm a college student and i have a lot of free time, while he works a blue-collar job with a 40 hour a week schedule. We live 40 minutes apart, both still living with our parents, so basically we haven't been seeing each other a lot. We catch up via text when he's not busy with work or family stuff and see each other in person 1 or 2 times a week, which I know is not bad, but it's not exactly quality time either. He's often tired from work, and when he's not maybe i'm the one who's tired, or we have little time, etc. I feel like there's been a lack of intimacy and communication which probably is also my fault, but i don't know if it's because we just need to adapt to a new routine (he started working this job in july) or maybe the relationship has run its course.
I have to specify, this is something that tends to happen cyclically. We share a couple of good months or weeks, then we start to grow a bit distant, we have arguments and maybe break up or fight and then we reconnect. It's not like it happens every month but this is not the first time either. I sometimes wonder if we're the right people for eachother - we live two different lives, our friends are different, and honestly we both struggle with our mental health. He's a very jealous guy, not very trusting of me, although he's very caring he tends to be a bit judgy and holds grudges. I struggle with depression, i can be a difficult person to be in a relationship with and i tend to spiral a lot. Recently thanks to meds and therapy i have been feeling a lot better but still sometimes feel the need to rant, while knowing that i can't do that with him as he will say i can be "too much" (which i totally understand). This has lead me to find comfort in my female friends, telling them how i feel and then reporting a filtered version to him, just to prevent offending him, or fighting - which i know is not good . Communication just doesn't feel that safe anymore, there's been many instances when my admissions or feelings were met with straight up insults during fights, and that's not healthy either. What do you think about this situation?
