Hiring/ Job application process: Am I overthinking this or am I being messed around here?

I went for an interview with a company for a high-level job. Interview lasts 90 minutes. Fairly intensive.

The next day I get a call from one of the inerviewers (there were two) saying I did really well and they invited me back for stage 2.

Stage 2: A one hour walk of the facility and a presentation which I made in front of a panel. Another 2 hours all-in-all.

Next morning I get a call saying they'll be in contact in the coming week as theyre reviewing some other candidates?! That was 5 days ago.

Anyone from the HR/Hiring space shed some light on this? Am I overthinking it or is this company messing me around a little?
