In need of $300 to keep momentum
Hi everyone. I am posting here on behalf of my client. Here is what he has to say:
I am hoping to raise a total of $300 for urine screening as a condition of my bond. The situation is unique. I am on probation and have struggled with meth addiction for years and years. Well, I’ve been sober for close to a year now but the past keeps coming at me. I ended up receiving a new paraphernalia charge for an old pipe that I had forgotten about. It sucks. At the time of the arrest, I was completely sober. I am in the process of applying for SSI/SSDI disability income but there is roughly a 200 day waiting period before I will hear back. And, usually, people will receive a denial and need to appeal that denial several times in a row.
I have finally been approved and selected for housing assistance off of a waitlist that was about 9 months of waiting. If I cannot pay the $25 per UA as part of my bond conditions, I will get a warrant for my arrest and will end up sitting in jail for a couple of months until my next court date. This would mean that I have to pass up the opportunity to get into housing, would wait until I’m released from jail, and then apply for the housing waitlist again.
I have been in survival mode. Couch surfing with a physical disability while somehow managing to stick to the longest period of sobriety I have had in many years. I am working with different agencies in the area but unfortunately there is no service that is willing to pay for anything that is related to legal costs or fine costs.
I am expected to do 1 UA per week until mid December. Each UA costs $25. That is a total of $300. I know it is hard to be certain of my intentions but I have put in so much effort into getting better and it just sucks that it does not look like that on paper. I have people behind me that are in support of me. I am just in need of overcoming this financial barrier. Please, if anybody can help, I would be so grateful.
Thank you
