Home Dehumidifier?

Looking For

We moved here in January. Our rental home (built 2014) gets very humid inside, even while using a/c. When the a/c is not running, and in winter while heat is on, my husband and I are miserable from humidity. Everything we heard about Portland’s low humidity in Summer, or even while raining has not been the case starting in May (2025). The grading is poor and water drains toward the foundation. No window condensation, but anything coming out of the fridge immediately starts dripping. My husband has asthma. I have a disorder that severely impacts my ability to control my body temperature. When I exercise, it takes way too long to cool down inside our air conditioned house because of humidity. I have to be very careful in the summer not to get heat exhaustion, in the winter I get uncontrolled shivering, and either way I get ill. We keep the temp set at 68 degrees year round, which usually means I’m comfortable - but not here. I’m highly allergic to mold and mildew. Towels don’t dry between showers and mildew, food outside the fridge rots. I’m always cleaning mold from the grout. When humidity is too high, it worsens my (and anyone’s) ability to control internal temperature. Room dehumidifiers have terrible reviews, don’t last long, and have heavy tanks to empty. Thoughts about how to convince our landlord to at least pay half of buying and installing an integrated hvac dehumidifier?
