Career Advice

To make it brief, my career end goal is to be an 1811. What agency I start with isn’t as important as I know a lateral move is a possibility in the future.

Right now I’m finishing up my enlistment in the Marine Corps as well as my AA in Criminal Justice. I guess I’m just conflicted on where I should go from here. I’m still in my early twenties and have a strong desire to dip my toes into the law enforcement world so I’m heavily considering going local pd for a few years not only for the related job experience but also because I’m genuinely passionate about police work. I know it’s a stretch, but I would try to pick away at my BA while working as an officer as well.

My other option is to just go to back to school as soon as I’m out of the service and finish my degree while serving in the national guard as well to hopefully add some extra bullet points on my resume.

The second option would definitely get me to a position where I could apply for an 1811 job faster but that first option just seems safer in my opinion as I have something to fall back on if federal doesn’t work out.

I’m trying to play everything carefully and just looking for some guidance and recommendations.
