How to gently tell my dad he’s overwhelming me

Relationships/Family

My father is a single father. My parents got divorced over ten years ago and then my mother passed away 5 years ago. Our wedding starts at 3:30.

I told my dad to come to the venue at 2, the same time as the photographer, so he does not have to wait around. He told me he will be coming earlier and I said that’s fine but then you will need to hang out in the groomsmen suite. He told me he does not want to hang out with them he wants to hang out with me in the bridal suite. He said it’s not normal for the father of the bride to be with the groom. I told him I am not letting in anyone besides the bridesmaids and vendors until after I am dressed which will be after 2.

Then again he said he wants to hang out before the ceremony in the bridal suite with me and I told him i will be busy taking pictures as I am doing a first look and we are trying to get a lot of our photos done before the ceremony. He thinks it will just be me and him only in the bridal suite right before the ceremony. He forgets that my bridal suite leads right out to the aisle and since we’re doing a first look everyone will be piling into my suite instead of using a different door.

Then he said his table has to be the closest one to our sweatheart table. I would have preferred to have our wedding party tables be the closest.

He told me for his wedding he left 30 minutes after the cake cutting and I told him we planned on leaving at 9:15 which is 15 minutes before the wedding ends. He said okay then that’s when I’ll leave too. I said okay I don’t care when people leave. He was upset that I wasn’t happy that he would stay the whole time with me

Finally since we are not doing a father daughter dance, his decision, he wants to slow dance during the reception part of the night.

I am starting to get overwhelmed with how much he wants to be attached to my hip throughout the whole day and I don’t know how to tell him that without sounding mean. I like my dad but I’m already going to be attached to my FH all day and I will get burnt out if I have my dad trailing behind too. How can I go about this gently without hurting his feelings? He’s just lonely so I understand why but dad I’m getting married it’s time to let go
