Did a return to sender spell backfire ? It was a person harrasing and crossing boundaries

It was to protect a family member but I lost my job the next day. I also came to the person left from that place. But this has made me little uncertain as to if it backfires. I did not.wish that person any other misery apart from sending back whatever he did and to keep him away.
