Is buying clothing overseas with Buyee worth it post tariffs?

🗣️ Discussion

Hello. Wanted to put this out there since I've seen some confusion about the new fees and whether using Buyee to get overseas fashion is worth it or not. Also looking to hear some other opinions on this.

About a month ago, I had several items in storage and sort of forgot about them for a few weeks. When I came back, I was expecting my free storage period to be finished, however, I noticed the timer was frozen. Fast forward a few more weeks and Buyee has unfrozen the free storage period so I had to ship my haul. The value of all my items was just under 61,200 yen (around $407 usd). I managed to avoid domestic shipping (from seller to buyee) on all of my items so I was only going to pay 5,600 yen (around $37 usd) for shipping to my address. The new customs fee charges you 15% on the combined value of all items shipped, so I payed an extra 9500 yen (around $63 usd). I had 7 items in total so thats around a $9 upcarge per item in this case.

In my opinion, as somebody who primarily uses Buyee to fill my wardrobe and occasionally flip items for profit, this upcharge is not very detrimental. Yes, i'd rather not pay the customs fee (shout out big orange idiot), but Buyee seems to still be efficient in saving money as someone in the U.S. looking to buy overseas garments.

I assume this charge would vary based on the type of clothing being purchased. I tend to go for designers that can be had for a great price. If you were to purchase something much higher end (maybe $300+ per garment) the fee would feel alot heavier.

Would like to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Are you going to continue using Buyee to satisfy your fashion needs?
