Arrogant coworker that wouldn't shut up about employee benefits

I had just started working at a very well-known biotech company when I was talking to my new team during our lunch break. We were talking about how my previous employer (a competitor with a notorious reputation) was like when one guy (who started 3 months before me) began ranting about how much the employee benefits sucked here and his previous employer was better.

He claimed that the research hospital in Boston he was at had free catering, full health insurance coverage, sabbatical programs, yearly bonuses... almost everything you would want from a job. At this point, my coworkers and I were getting annoyed with him and wanted to move on from the topic.

He finished prattling off all the benefits he had when goes, "It's crazy that a multi-million dollar company like here can't offer not even HALF the benefits my old place did."

To which I responded "Then you must've done something equally crazy to lose all that benefits and come here."

Dude never talked about his old employer after that. He loathed me, but I became good friends with the rest of my coworkers.
