Don't make recruiters or hiring managers do your job

And what's your job?

It's too make clear at the very top of your resume who you are and what experience and skills you bring to the table; in other words, have you demonstrated that you are a qualified candidate for a particular role?

This doesn't mean - in my view, at least - that you need to or should tweak your resume for each application (I know, I know - plenty of people disagree).

It does mean that you apply for jobs that actually align with your experiences and skills.

All too often, clients send me resumes that require recruiters to figure out how they meet the requirements for the role they're trying to fill. Their strategy is to "put it all out there," but that requires recruiters work at determining what is and isn't relevant.
