FTB navigating building survey

Hi, first time buyer here and trying to get my around the building survey...I've put my details into a comparison website to get a quote and annoyingly it wants a real email address/phone number before I can see a quote...ok so I do that and last week I was inundated with pushy sales calls which feel like a red flag to me.

After doing a bit more research on this subreddit I see many are sceptics on the value these reports even provide. I think I'd still like to proceed with one but I'm wondering if my instincts are correct that the companies pushing heavy cold calls are probably crap? Does anyone have any advise here? Are they all much of a muchness?
