What does it mean to you to sustain the Prophet?
For all callings throughout the church, we’re asked to “sustain” the people who are called. Particularly for callings within our wards/branches, we may often go through the motions of raising our hand at the appropriate time without giving it much thought.
What does it mean to you to “sustain” someone, especially a new Prophet?
Does it mean to be their apologist, vigorously defending everything they have ever said or done?
Does it mean to ignore and suppress any and all frustration or negative feelings?
Does it mean to pray for us to change our ways, to love and respect them as they are?
Does it mean to pray for them that Heavenly Father than instruct them and help them to grow and develop into the leader He needs them to be?
I’m struggling to find the right balance as described in D&C 21:4-5
Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me;
For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.
