I found a fix for nitro v16 battery drop while gaming (anv16-41 amd cpu variant).

Hello fellow v16 laptop users.

The culprit is bios firmware. If you downgrade your bios previous than 1.05 version, your system able to pull above 135 watt while gaming or doing other intensive tasks. But there are some issues I need to mention.

1.      If you do that wattage limit will be unlocked and your laptop will not use your battery when gaming. But your laptop will pull more than 135 for certain loads obviously gaming etc. Our default charger is 135 watts but it can provide these wattages if our system demands. I tested it and it goes up to ~160 watt easily. It may cause power supply damage for mid-to-the-long-term.

2.      It will be probably safe if we use 180-watt charger with old bios however our laptops also have some hardware limitations, components and power port insufficiencies and it may also cause hardware problems on laptops side mid to long term. Acer might wanted to prevent it with bios updates. But my bet is on power supply protection for extra power demand.

3.      When you use older bios, it can charge and gives you full performance while gaming and it can cause 170-180 watts power consumption. Still will not have batter drop which is expected behavior. You don’t want to do that with stock power supply.

4.      If we use older bios, we can’t access some fixes and improvements on bios updates. However, many gamers and I probably have idgaf attitude if there are no serious fixes.

I understand acer wants to prevent excessive power consumption for 135 stock charger. But their implementation is wrong. They can easily limit cpu+gpu power limit without using battery within 135 watts. I am able to that with simple tool for at least cpu God damn. We need a proper bios implementation which doesn’t use above 135 watts but also doesn’t cause battery drain. It must not that to hard to fix. Give us a bios fix ACER!!!!

Also, there must be option for 180watt charger on bios. If someone has 180-watt charger there must be unlockable function to increase wattage limit of laptop. Or give every one of us an 180-watt charger and fix bios with an update. We will appreciate this option the most :). Many people who have this laptop have negative attitude towards Acer and they are doing negative marketing over reddit, and they are right about it.

So, my suggestion to fix battery drain for this laptop are these:

1.      Obtain a 180-watt charger. Downgrade your bios to 1.04 and enjoy drain free experience. Also you can limit cpu tdp with older bios to prevent power overconsumption.

2.      Use latest bios and limit your cpu tdp with uxtu for performance and turbo mode. You need to limit your cpu 25 and 15 watts respectively for these modes.

3.      The other solution which involves Acer is giving us 180 watt charger and bios update. Or at least a proper bios update for 135 watt stock charger.

I will also explain how to downgrade your bios:

Caution: I am not responsible for hardware or software brick of your laptop. Do not ask anything about me if it happens. I won’t help you so be aware you are willing do this for yourself.

These is the link for my nitro v16 variant’s(anv16-41) driver page: https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/product-support/ANV16-41/downloads?suggest=anv16;4

1.      Download 1.04 version bios and extract file.

2.      Also, extract exe file with 7z.

3.      Inside of the extracted folder there must be platform.ini file. Right click on this and press edit.

4.      Search for “flag=2” and change 2 to 0 and save the file.

5.      Then run “H2OFFT-Wx64.exe” and it will do the downgrade process for you. Just be patient and be on ac power.

6.      Enjoy your drain free experience.

Your stock charger can give you above 135 watts and it seems not to hot for my experience, but it will degrade its life, I guess.

Maybe we can pressure Acer to fix this mess, but I don’t want to deal with it. If anyone wants to start petition or something I will probably participate. I provided proof at least. Have a nice day.
