I (25 F) want to break up with my FWB (38 M) but I’m unsure how
I (25 F) have been seeing my FWB (39 M) for about a year now. He lives two hours away so we take turns visiting each other. He’s a great guy, we help each other stick to our work out plans, go on fun outings, and I’ve even met his son. We are crazy compatible from politics to in bed and I genuinely care about the guy.
He hasn’t visited my house before because I live on family property and all my neighbors are close (nosey) family. A few days ago we finally made plans for him to come and visit.
This is the issue.
We have talked extensively about how we both have our reasons for not wanting a real relationship at the very beginning when we met. We still talk about it every once in a while. And all of this is feeling a little too real. I know I probably should have seen this coming and broke up with him before this happened but I don’t want him to meet my family.
He would get along with them great. And that’s kinda the problem. I really care about him, but I don’t love him and it feels like things have gone farther than I’m comfortable with.
I know I want to break up with him but I don’t want to doing it in a way that will hurt more than it has to. I’ve got a lot of social anxiety too so I know I’ve been avoiding the conversation which isn’t fair to me or him.
Does anyone know the best way to do this? Part of the reason I was just casually dating was because I wanted to get more dating experience before attempting to start a serious relationship with someone (as well as meeting more people), so I haven’t been in a situation like this before.
